Yesterday, the Undersecretary of Quality and Regulation of the Tourism Ministry, Humberto Hernández-Haddad, and the Executive Director of Strategy and Public Diplomacy of the Foreign Ministry, Alfonso Zegbe Camarena, spoke with Mexico's ambassadors and other officials in its embassies in Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore and in the Liaison Office in Taiwan, as part of the ongoing work of the Permanent Tourism Observatory.

Both ministries agreed on the importance of highlighting the historical and cultural ties shared by Mexico and Asia-Pacific in order to increase tourism and investment between the two regions.  Mexico's strategic location was highlighted. It borders on two oceans, and its position vis-à-vis the Pacific Ocean is an attribute that benefits the reactivation of tourist and commercial activities.

Mexico's representatives abroad shared the successful strategies used by the countries they are in to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.  In addition to reducing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, these measures have enabled the countries to begin creating safe travel destinations to encourage tourism between nations that share a border, a model that could be implemented in Mexico in the future.

The Director General of International Affairs and Cooperation at the Tourism Ministry, Emmanuel Rey, and the coordinator of Tourism and Public Diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry, Ángel E. Santamaría, invited the participants to build an bridge of effective communication between Mexico's representative offices abroad and both ministries in order to collaborate fully on reactivating tourism in a comprehensive and inclusive manner.
