Regarding the comments made by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, during an interview with Bill O'Reilly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that it has contacted U.S. authorities to understand the meaning and scope of the remarks.

In addition, the Foreign Secretary will contact Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo to discuss this very important issue for the bilateral agenda. Given the good relationship that exists between the two countries, the Government of Mexico will seek a high-level meeting as soon as possible to present Mexico's position and hear the views of the U.S. authorities. As with other bilateral issues, the Foreign Ministry will promote a dialogue and roadmap that allows us to make progress with reducing the flow of arms and money from the United States to organized crime in Mexico, in addition to precursor chemicals and drug precursors that cross Mexican territory en route to the United States.

Based on inferences from the comments and on information we have received from U.S. authorities, it is believed that the meeting Mexico is proposing could be held in the near future.  The Government of Mexico will continue to use diplomacy to arrive at an understanding that, through cooperation and security, ensures the security of both countries.
