• After two months of training in diplomacy and climate change, four finalists were chosen out of 35 participants.
  • This year, the participation of indigenous and/or Afro-Mexican youths was ensured.
  • The program aims to boost the participation of youths in international negotiations

The Foreign Ministry, National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), Mexican Youth Institute (Imjuve), Matías Romero Institute (IMR), The Climate Reality Project of Latin America and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) are pleased to announce the results of the training in diplomacy and climate change for Operation COP: Youth Ambassadors for Climate project.

In recognition of the need to guarantee the inclusion and full participation of young indigenous and/or Afro-Mexican people in skill-building climate action programs, the Mexican government decided that this year there would be two categories, with three individuals selected from Category A General, and one person chosen from  Category B Indigenous and Afro-Mexican youths.

Steps are being taken to finance the participation of the four individuals selected to represent Mexican youth in the official Mexican delegation that will attend the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will take place from November 7-18, 2022, in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.

This is the second consecutive year in which young people have been included in the Mexican delegation to COP27.

The finalists are:

  1. Charis Montero, Beatriz Soledad – COP27-18
  2. Diaz Aranda, Antonio – COP27-41
  3. Horton Hermida, Valeria – COP27-17
  4. Reyes Galindo, Pablo Emiliano – COP27-06

The selection was made by the Selection Committee, based on the Selection Criteria Guide, and its decision is final. The process was strictly transparent, objective, inclusive, non-discriminatory and representative. The individuals selected will be contacted by the Foreign Ministry to inform them of the details about their participation in COP27.

The institutions involved appreciate and recognize the work and effort of the youths who participated in the training.  We hope to continue working with you to strengthen climate action in Mexico.
