We, the Foreign Ministers of Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Turkey and Australia (MIKTA), deplore North Korea’s fourth nuclear test, which constitutes a clear threat to international peace and security.

The test was in direct violation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009), 2087 (2013) and 2094 (2013).

The test also contravenes international non-proliferation norms and principles under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

We note the previous Joint Communiqué of MIKTA on the Situation in North Korea in April 2014.  We again urge North Korea to fully implement all relevant UN Security Council resolutions and to refrain from provocative action that could threaten regional peace and security.
