The Foreign Ministry reports that, in accordance with the October 17 joint press release issued by the Foreign and Interior Ministries, the Honduran migrants seeking refugee status on the southern border began receiving assistance with this today.

The Government of Mexico is in ongoing communication with the members of the caravan that have reached the southern border, and has explained their options to them.

Those requesting refugee status have received assistance from Mexican authorities in an orderly fashion with full respect for the migrants' human rights and in accordance with national legislation and international law.

In addition, today the Mexican government asked the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for its support in accompanying this process.

The Mexican authorities deployed on the southern border will continue to inform the migrants who wish to enter Mexico about their rights and the procedures, in order to ensure orderly, regular and safe migration that is respectful of their human rights.
