The Mexican government, in full compliance with the norms and principles of international law contained in the United Nations Charter and the Mexican Constitution, expresses its repudiation of the use or threat of use of force in international relations. The crisis in Venezuela cannot be resolved through domestic or foreign military actions.

On August 8, twelve countries, Mexico among them, adopted the Lima Declaration. It condemns the breakdown of the democratic order in Venezuela, does not recognize the National Constituent Assembly and says that all legal acts requiring Constitutional authorization from the National Assembly will only be recognized when said Assembly has approved them. The signatory countries of the Lima Declaration also strongly rejected all violence and the use of force.

Mexico reaffirms the Lima Declaration and will continue to take all possible diplomatic steps to restore democracy in Venezuela through a peaceful and negotiated solution.
