• The ARM Papaloapan and ARM Libertador set sail from the port of Veracruz with medical brigades, a mobile hospital, more than 1,700 tons of food, basic necessities and medicines.

The Mexican government continues to send humanitarian aid to Haiti after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that caused serious damage there. Following the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, two Navy ships sailed today with aid for Haiti, a country with which we have had diplomatic relations for over nine decades.

The National Civil Protection Council (CNPC) and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid) are coordinating a team made up of the Ministries of Health and Defense, the Navy and the Mexican embassy in Haiti.  Provisions are being collected and sent to the island, with contributions from the private sector, various organizations and Mexicans who have brought donations to collection sites.

The ARM Papaloapan and ARM Libertador set sail this morning from the port of Veracruz with approximately 1,729 tons of provisions including food packages, personal hygiene items, clothing, tents, medicines and medical supplies such as face masks and, in one shipping container, a mobile hospital.

The medical brigades and mobile clinic being transported by ARM Libertador will provide medical assistance to the people of Haiti, as the country's health infrastructure was badly damaged. A third ship is accompanying the two vessels for their safety.

At the departure ceremony, Amexcid Executive Director Laura Elena Carrillo commended the overwhelming response of the Mexican people and organizations that, with great solidarity, donated to the collection centers in order to help a country that is a member of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), an international organization headed by Mexico as president pro tempore.  The ceremony was led by Admiral Santiago Jorge Morgado Gómez, Commander of the First Naval Region.

Mexico expresses its solidarity with Haiti at this difficult time. This aid,  channeled through the Mexican government, contributes to that send by other countries and international organizations that have also demonstrated their solidarity with the people and authorities of Haiti.
