To protect those looking for jobs abroad from any frauds that may be committed by employment agencies, Mexico's National Employment Service (SNE) and embassies in the U.S. and Canada agreed on protocols for verifying job offers before continuing with any procedure.
The first Inter-institutional Conference on Fraud Prevention was chaired by Rodrigo Ramírez, head of the National Employment Service at the Labor Ministry, who recommended the safe use of online services and mobile applications to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. He said that job scams are mainly posted on web pages and social media sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp.
At the meeting, held in the state of Morelos, the official said that the SNE and Canadian and U.S. authorities have personalized assistance to help verify the authenticity of job offers that look fake or to register complaints.
In her remarks, Vanessa Calva Ruiz, Director General of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning at the Foreign Ministry, asked individuals in the U.S. who have been victims of fraud, "to go to their consulates to receive assistance and protection."
Lastly, the National Employment Service reported that it posts job vacancies abroad that comply with all security and authenticity standards. They can be seen on the Online Employment Portal www.empleo.gob. For more information, call the helpline at 800 841 2020.
The meeting was also attended by Morelos Secretary of Economic Development and Labor Ana Cecilia Rodríguez; National Fraud Prevention Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy James Finan; Mayra Alejandra Bocanegra, analyst in the Risk Assessment Unit at the Canadian Embassy; SNE Director General in Morelos Jorge Mario García; and Carlos Brito from the Morelos Interior Ministry, who agreed on the importance of verifying job offers with the authorities to avoid being victims of fraud.
