In accordance with our constitutional principles of non-intervention; self-determination of peoples; the peaceful settlement of international disputes; the legal equality of States; respect, protection and promotion of human rights; and the fight for international peace and security (Constitutional Art. 89, fraction 10), Mexico will not participate in the non-recognition of the government of a country with which it maintains diplomatic relations.

We fully agree with the United Nations' call for all actors involved in the conflict in Venezuela to ease tensions, make all possible efforts to avoid an escalation and reject any type of political violence.

We also join Uruguay in calling for a dialogue between the parties and, along with Spain and Portugal, we express our hope for a political solution to the situation in Venezuela.
