• The AztraZeneca vaccines were fill-finished by Birmex in Mexico 
  • They were received by the Vice President of Ecuador, Alfredo Borrero Vega

Foreign Ministry officials delivered 1 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Ecuador  as part of Mexico's pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and in accordance with the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on cooperation and solidarity with the nations of the region during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The vaccines were received by the Vice President of Ecuador, Alfredo Borrero Vega; Ximena Garzón Villalba, Health Minister of Ecuador; and Luis Vayas Valdivieso, Deputy Minister of Human Mobility of Ecuador. The Mexican delegation included Efraín Guadarrama, Director General of Regional American Organizations; Raquel Serur Smeke, Ambassador of Mexico in Ecuador; Margarita Alcántara, from the area for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights; and Juan Carlos Holguín, itinerant ambassador for foreign affairs.

The vaccines, produced in the Birmex plant in Mexico, comply with national and international quality standards, and have Good Manufacturing Practices certification from the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris). The doses were packed in special envirotainers donated by the Direct Relief organization, and transported in aircraft belonging to the Mexican Air Force. 
Mexico reiterates its commitment to the Latin American region to combat the pandemic together, in solidarity and fraternity.
