Regarding the case of María Fernanda Sánchez Castañeda, the young Mexican woman reported missing in Berlin, the Foreign Ministry reports that the consular section of the Mexican embassy in Germany has taken actions in coordination with her parents, including accompanying them to meetings with the Berlin police and taking steps with Mexican authorities to obtain INTERPOL’s collaboration.

To date, Mexico’s ambassador to Germany, Francisco José Quiroga Fernández, has met twice with the girl's parents, the most recent meeting being held today, Monday, July 31. At this meeting, Ambassador Quiroga said he had brought the case to the attention of the Berlin police authorities at the highest level, and he explained the actions being taken to locate the young woman.

On July 24, Maria Fernanda's father, Francisco Javier Sanchez Terminel, called the Center for Information and Assistance for Mexicans (CIAM) to ask for help in locating his daughter.

He also contacted the consular section of the Mexican embassy in Germany to express his concern at not having heard from his daughter since the night of Saturday, July 22. Mexico’s diplomatic representation then contacted local authorities, the young woman’s student dormitory and, subsequently, her university.

Consular personnel went to the Berlin police to request an update on this missing persons case, and contacted the hospitals in Berlin, with no results.

Mexican authorities have been in ongoing communication with the young woman’s family and friends, and have printed flyers and taken other actions to publicize the case in Germany. Various groups of Mexicans in Germany and Europe have joined in these efforts.

The Mexican Government will spare no efforts to collaborate with authorities in order to locate María Fernanda, and will remain in close contact with her parents.
