Foreign Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu visited the consular section of the Mexican embassy in the United States to launch phase one of the new Mexican passport abroad--the result of the consular modernization program--and presented the first ones to Mexican citizens.

The new passport has the highest quality standards and the most advanced technology available to guarantee its security and reliability. From now on, the issuance of passports in the United States and in Mexico will be a unified process. In 2014, Mexico’s embassies and consulates around the world issued about 1.2 million passports.

The Foreign Secretary praised the work done by the consular staff, stressing how important it is for them to work hard to provide better services to Mexican citizens when issuing documents, providing consular protection and addressing the needs of their communities.

As of December 1, 2015, all Mexican consulates, mobile consulates and consulates on wheels in the United States are issuing the new Mexican passports.
