On August 13, the Border Patrol rescued sixteen people hidden in a tractor-trailer in Edinburg, located outside of McAllen, Texas. Seven of those rescued are Mexican citizens.

The Mexican consulate in McAllen interviewed each of the Mexicans, who said they were in good health.  The consulate is offering them consular assistance and protection, and will follow the case while their legal status is determined.

The Mexican government urges its citizens not to hire immigrant smugglers, as doing so puts their lives at risk.
