To mark the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Russia, Foreign Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov exchanged letters of congratulation.

The anniversary, to be celebrated today, is evidence of the solid friendship between the two nations, said Foreign Secretary Ruiz Massieu in a letter that stressed the importance of the joint work done by both countries to strengthen the bilateral relationship.

Various events have been held to commemorate the more than one hundred years of bilateral relations, including exhibits of documents and paintings, as well as festivals.

In Mexico, the National Archives organized an exhibit on “125 Years of Mexico – Russia Diplomatic Relations” with the help of the Foreign Ministry. In Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry also organized an exhibit, inaugurated by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The Mexican embassy in Moscow organized “Mexico Days” in Yekaterinburg; the “Viva Mexico!” festival in Sochi; an exhibit of the Russian-Mexican painter Vlady at the Moscow Museum of Decorative Arts and sponsored a Mexican Army band during the Spasskaya Tower international military music festival in the Red Square.

The Russian embassy in Mexico presented an exhibit on the Russian Avant-garde in the Palace of Fine Arts and organized a cultural week in honor of the Russian Federation in collaboration with the Senate.
