One day after the inauguration of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Mexico, the United States and Canada have begun the countdown to the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in all three North American countries.

Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Canada's Minister of International Development, Harjit Sajjan, met in a soccer field with young soccer players of various nationalities.

"Today's is the first event in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup," said Foreign Secretary Ebrard. He explained that each of the three countries will work on infrastructure, but in coordination with the other nations.

The Foreign Secretary highlighted the value of having North America organize the next World Cup as an integrated region. "This is the first time that there will be a World Cup organized by three countries presenting themselves as a region," he said.
