A naturalization ceremony was held today at the Foreign Ministry. It was led by Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, who delivered 103 naturalization certificates granting Mexican nationality to individuals from more than 25 countries who voluntarily applied for it and met the requirements established by Mexican law.
In his remarks, the secretary said that Mexico "has historically been a country open to receiving those who are persecuted, those who suffer, those who need support and comfort. That is the Mexican tradition." "Today we honor that tradition and we welcome you with open arms…You are choosing our country for your nationality, to be Mexican, and that choice is the greatest commitment you can have…You come to enrich our country, you come to make it better," he said.
Foreign Secretary Ebrard administered the oath of allegiance to the new Mexicans and Mon Laferte, who was also naturalized, sang the Mexican national anthem accompanied by the Naval Symphony Orchestra.
