The Mexican government condemns the attack with small arms and an explosive that was carried out against the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) reconnaissance team in Douma, Syria on April 18.

After the April 7 attack against Douma's civilian population, inspectors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) sent a fact-finding mission to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons. However, the UNDSS reconnaissance team in charge of the mission's safety was attacked before the inspectors' arrival at the site.

Mexico reiterates the need for the OPCW's fact-finding mission to be able to carry out its work in Syria freely and safely in order to clarify the April 7 attacks.

Mexico condemns the use of chemical weapons in any circumstances in contravention of the Chemical Weapons Convention and international law
