The National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF) held a meeting in the Foreign Ministry to inform the diplomatic corps accredited in Mexico about the 2018 electoral process. 

At today's meeting, the importance of the 2018 electoral process, in which more than 3,400 federal and local public officials will be elected, was discussed. 

During the meeting, led by INE President Lorenzo Córdova and TEPJF President Janine Otálora Malassis, the two officials explained the role of their institutions, which are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the biggest elections in Mexico's history. 

Dr. Lorenzo Córdova said that the INE is organizing the 2018 election based on the guiding principles of electoral management: certainty, legality, independence, impartiality, objectivity and maximum publicity. In order for the INE to continue bringing stability and certainty to the country's political and public life, he reiterated the importance of having the support of all the political actors, civil society organizations and citizens, and the accompaniment of the international community.  

Judge Janine Otálora stressed that the court's priority will always be to guarantee the rule of law, and that it will resolve all electoral matters with full independence and autonomy. She also reaffirmed the court's neutrality in ensuring the constitutionality of the entire Mexican electoral system.
