On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry and the Attorney General's Office report that Roberto "N" was formally extradited to Mexico today to face the criminal charges against him for his alleged participation in acts which are crimes under the law: at the federal level for money laundering, and for three local criminal charges of the unlawful use of power, embezzlement and misuse of public office (as established in Quintana Roo state law).

The Mexican government thanks the government of Panama for its help in carrying out the commitments of both countries under the November 2004 extradition treaty by immediately ordering a provisional arrest warrant on June 5 and then processing Mexico's requests, which led to today's handover of this fugitive from the Mexican justice system.

The extradited individual presented various challenges to his arrest in Panama and extradition to Mexico that were heard by the Supreme Court of Justice of Panama, which did not rule in favor of the defendant. Therefore, the extradition procedure was carried out with full respect for and in observance of his human rights and due process as established in the applicable laws.

With these actions, the Mexican government fulfills its commitments to work objectively and impartially to strengthen law enforcement so that borders are not barriers to ensuring that those who break the law are held accountable for their acts in the jurisdictions that seek them.
