Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray made an official visit to Moscow on November 17, where he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to review the main bilateral issues as well as regional and multilateral affairs of mutual interest.
The two officials agreed to give impetus to bilateral trade and investment in coordination with businesses. They also agreed to use existing institutionalized channels to keep in communication in order to expand their common agenda.
Regarding regional and multilateral issues, Foreign Ministers Videgaray and Lavrov discussed the current situation in Venezuela and North Korea, as well as the Pacific Alliance and the Eurasian Economic Union, among other issues. Lastly, they agreed to maintain an ongoing dialogue on issues related to the United Nations, and to promote Russian exchanges with Latin America through the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), with which Russia has a political dialogue.
Foreign Minister Lavrov reiterated President Vladimir Putin's invitation to President Enrique Peña Nieto to make a State visit to Russia in 2018.
During his official visit, Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray addressed the Russian Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy, stressing Mexico's commitment to multilateralism to deal with the most important global challenges. He also placed a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in honor of the fallen soldiers during World War II.
