The Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs report that:
1. As expected, the "Via Crucis" migrant caravan began to break up at the decision of its members.
2. Mexican government officials accompanied the participants on their journey through national territory, with full respect for the law and for human rights.
3. The decision not to continue was made solely by the members of the caravan and was not due to any external or domestic pressure.
4. With regard to the foreign citizens who were part of the migrant caravan, the Mexican government has focused on informing them of the regularization processes and options provided by the Law on Migration. In addition, immigration-related administrative procedures have started for those who expressed interest (465 people asked for exit documents, of which 230 have been delivered). In addition, 168 are eligible under the law to receive notification of regularization and these will be authorized in the next few hours.
5. The Mexican government reiterates that its immigration policy is a sovereign issue implemented according to law through which it seeks to ensure legal, safe and orderly migration with full respect for people's rights.
6. It should be recalled that this caravan has taken place since 2010 and consists mainly of immigrants from Central America's Northern Triangle (Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador).
The Mexican government remains engaged with the appropriate international mechanisms in order to better address the issue of immigration.
