Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray travels today to Lima with the aim of strengthening the political dialogue and bilateral legal framework. 

The Foreign Secretary and Peruvian Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna will co-chair the second meeting of the Mexico-Peru Strategic Partnership Council,  reviewing various aspects of the bilateral relationship and looking for new areas of cooperation.  Prior to that meeting, there will be two others: the second Mexico-Peru Civil Society Forum and the second meeting of the migration and consular affairs cooperation group. 

While in Lima, Foreign Secretary Videgaray will meet with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and hold bilateral meetings with Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna and Vice President Mercedes Aráoz Fernández.

In addition, the Foreign Secretary, Mexican Culture Secretary María Cristina García Cepeda and the Director of the Fondo de Cultura Economica, José Carreño Carlón, will attend the inauguration of the 22nd International Book Fair (FIL- Lima), of which Mexico is the guest country of honor. Thirty-six well-known Mexican authors will be at the book fair, which will be held from July 21 to August 6. 

Peru is a strategic partner for Mexico and a member of the Pacific Alliance.  It is Mexico's 6th-ranked trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean and 26th in the world. In 2016, bilateral trade totaled USD 1.96 billion. Peru is also the second most important destination for Mexican investments in Latin America and the Caribbean, with about USD 14 billion in total.
