Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray met today in Washington, D.C. with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen. During their meeting, the two officials discussed security and migration issues on the bilateral agenda.

At the meeting, the Foreign Secretary reiterated that Mexico's immigration policy is a sovereign issue and that Mexico's cooperation with the United States in this area is carried out according to our country's interests and the principle of shared responsibility.

Both officials agreed that Mexico and the United States have an ongoing and close dialogue on migration issues as well as a history of cooperation and constant innovation on this topic.

Foreign Secretary Videgaray and Secretary Nielsen agreed on the importance of continuing and stepping up their joint work with the countries of Central America's Northern Triangle in order to encourage regional development and orderly migration with an approach that aims for economic development and improved security there.

The two officials agreed to hold a high-level meeting to follow up on the Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America on a date yet to be determined.
