Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Carlos De Icaza received the Secretary-General of the French Foreign Ministry, Christian Masset, in the Foreign Ministry during the meetings of the group that monitors the bilateral institutional arrangements currently in force.

The two officials applauded the excellent state of the bilateral relationship under the leadership of Presidents Enrique Peña Nieto and François Hollande, and the reciprocal State visits made by the presidents in 2014 and 2015. They also reaffirmed their countries’ readiness to continue developing the Franco-Mexican strategic partnership, to strengthen the political dialogue, economic exchanges, and educational, technical and cultural cooperation, and to join forces to meet the current global challenges by signing a roadmap.

Undersecretary De Icaza expressed Mexico’s gratitude for the many gestures of solidarity from France, including the recent statements by Jean-Marc Ayrault, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, on the possible participation of French companies in building the wall planned by the U.S. on the border with Mexico.

Undersecretary De Icaza welcomed the opening of the Office of the French Embassy in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, saying that it is further proof of the strong and close ties between both countries.

While in Mexico, Secretary-General Masset gave a talk on "The European Union and the Transatlantic Relationship" at the Foreign Ministry’s Matías Romero Institute.
