Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is in Mexico on a State visit from July 16-18 at the invitation of President Enrique Peña Nieto.

This is the first time in 18 years that a Portuguese president has visited Mexico; he does so to reciprocate for President Peña Nieto's State visit to Portugal in June 2014, the first visit by a Mexican president in 16 years.

President Rebelo de Sousa's visit reaffirms both countries' desire to enhance all aspects of the bilateral relationship and to give impetus to the high-level political dialogue promoted since the beginning of President Peña Nieto's administration.

The president of Portugal is traveling with the Economy Minister and a delegation of parliamentarians and business executives, some of whom have already successfully entered the Mexican market and others who are interested in learning about business opportunities in Mexico for their small and medium-sized businesses.

President Rebelo de Sousa will meet with President Peña Nieto at the National Palace on Monday, July 17. He will also participate in the “Mexico and Portugal: A Shared Journey” business seminar, and will meet with business executives from both countries to encourage more trade and investment.

Mexico has become Portugal's second largest trading partner in Latin America.
