Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray:

Enrique Peña Nieto, President of the United Mexican States; Ambassadors and Consuls of Mexico; former Foreign Secretaries; Senators; Deputies; honored  special guests, I want to give a special welcome to Dr. José Graziano da Silva, Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Thank you Dr. Graziano for being here, it is an honor to have you here in Mexico.

Mr. President, I have prepared a speech. It isn't very long but it is a speech. The ambassadors and consuls have been listening to me talk for a week and we are all hungry, so I just want to thank all of the members of your cabinet who took part in the meeting of ambassadors and consuls, the 29th year of this annual meeting, and who gave us a clear, broad and, above all, very hopeful view of Mexico's present and future.  I especially want to thank the Secretaries of Defense and of the Navy for not only giving us a detailed and very interesting explanation of the role of the armed forces in the international arena but also for having given us the opportunity to thank them for what the armed forces do for Mexico every day.

The meeting was a lot of work and a chance to get together and to listen and learn from one another.

I would like to thank you, Mr. President, for the privilege afforded to me and to all of our colleagues in the Foreign Ministry to have the opportunity to represent Mexico abroad.

Our commitment is to comply as mandated by the Constitution with executing the foreign policy set by the president and to do so proudly and joyfully as Mexicans and as representatives of this extraordinary country to the community of nations.

Thank you and welcome, everyone.
