• In September, Mexico will receive a second shipment of 1.75 million doses of the Moderna and 4.6 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines
  • With nine different vaccines in its portfolio, Mexico is the country with the most emergency use authorizations in the world: Ebrard

At this morning's press conference led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard reported that the first shipment of the Moderna vaccine arrived today.  In September, Mexico will receive a second shipment, for a total of 3.5 million doses, and a shipment of 4.6 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The Foreign Secretary said that the Moderna vaccine "is a pioneering vaccine, as is the Pfizer vaccine, in the use of messenger RNA technology and it is 93% effective against COVID-19 even six months after being administered." The Moderna vaccine is the seventh one that Mexico has received. The Foreign Secretary remarked that the Sinopharm and Covaxin vaccines have also received emergency use authorization in Mexico. "With nine vaccines, Mexico is the country with the most emergency use authorizations in the world," he said.

Lastly, the Foreign Secretary discussed the progress of the cross-border vaccination program, which was the result of close cooperation between Mexico and the US. Since May 25, almost 80,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been given to more than 73,000 Mexicans on the border between the two countries. About 30,000 more doses will be given there.

On behalf of the Mexican government, the Foreign Ministry reaffirms its interest in and commitment to strengthening international cooperation to contribute to universal, timely and equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccines.
