• The joint declaration signed this morning will make it possible to establish partnerships and trade agreements in Latin America and the Caribbean to eliminate poverty, provide tangible benefits and bring prosperity to the peoples of the hemisphere.
  • Mexico will work hard to ensure an equitable distribution of wealth in the region: Ebrard

Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard and Economy Secretary Raquel Buenrostro participated this morning in a virtual forum led by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to launch The Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity.

The Partnership is a joint initiative of the governments of Latin America, the United States and the Caribbean to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for the people of the hemisphere.  The signing of the declaration marks an important step for the region and is expected to contribute to job creation, access to education, stronger supply chains, poverty reduction, better wealth distribution and a brighter and more prosperous future for all the inhabitants of the Americas.

“We are very happy and pleased with the initiative that we have all launched today; I would like to commend the interest of President Biden and Secretary Blinken in calling for this partnership.  Mexico takes this declaration very seriously and we will work to strengthen the economy and well-being of the Americas," said Foreign Secretary Ebrard in his remarks.

Secretary Buenrostro said that advancing the region's economic development together with the countries of the continent is a priority for the Government of Mexico. She reiterated her conviction about the importance of representing the most disadvantaged communities so that the development achieved is universal and reduces the social gap that currently affects our peoples to such a degree.

Secretary Blinken said that there is no region with which the United States is more connected than with the Americas. He stressed that the joint work done in this partnership will be vital for seeking more opportunities that benefit the peoples of the region and for facing the global challenges together.

Also participating in the event were public officials from Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Uruguay.

The Government of Mexico reiterates its interest in the search for freedom, equality, democracy and fraternity with the countries of the American continent for the benefit of our peoples throughout the hemisphere.
