Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard and Finance Secretary Carlos Urzúa took part today in the second and last day of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Osaka, Japan, on behalf of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

During today's first plenary session, Foreign Secretary Ebrard said that the Government of Mexico gives the highest priority to reducing poverty and inequality and to ending corruption. He discussed the importance of an inclusive international agenda and its relationship to the Comprehensive Development Plan with Central America, inviting the G20 members to support or join the regional initiative.

The foreign secretary also took part in the day's second plenary session on climate change and environmental protection, and a side event convened by Japan on gender equality and women's economic empowerment. In addition, he met with the Foreign Minister of Japan, Taro Kono, to assess the bilateral economic relationship; the two countries' academic, scientific and technological cooperation; and regional issues of mutual interest.

The Summit concluded with the adoption of the Osaka Declaration (https://www.g20.org/pdf/documents/FINAL_G20_Osaka_Leaders_Declaration.pdf). The Government of Mexico commits not only to the contents of the declaration, but also to multilateralism and to strengthening a rules-based international order.

Before returning to Mexico, Foreign Secretary Ebrard will travel to Beijing. He will be in the People's Republic of China from July 1-2.
