• Mexico's rescue mission arrived in Türkiye and the second firefighting team landed in Chile
  • Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel will make an official visit to Mexico on February 11

At today's morning press conference headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard reported on the humanitarian aid missions sent by the Mexican government to Türkiye, Syria and Chile after the emergencies there.

The Foreign Secretary said that Chile, which is suffering from widespread wildfires, and where "human lives, homes and thousands of hectares have been lost," has received Mexico's full support. The first team has already been assigned their work areas, while the second team arrived in Chile early today.

Regarding Türkiye, he said that the Mexican Air Force flight landed today at 5:47 a.m. Mexico time in the city of Adana, which is located 240 kilometers from the worst hit area and is the closest airport where planes can still land.

The Mexican “Rescue Mission” includes personnel from the Ministries of Defense, Navy and Foreign Affairs and the Mexican Red Cross. Foreign Secretary Ebrard said that, in addition, the "Topos" rescue team would arrive in Türkiye between today and tomorrow on a Turkish Airways flight, since ten of the team needed passports, so they are not on the same flight.

The Mexican ambassador to Turkey, José Luis Martínez y Hernández, met the team, which traveled three hours overland from the airport to the scene.

The Foreign Secretary said that "the heart of the team are the K9 (canine) teams. There are 16 that are specially trained for this type of emergency […] which is rescuing people. That is the strategic goal at this moment,” he said.

Lastly, the Foreign Secretary said that Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel would visit Mexico on Saturday.  “We are going to hold his official welcome ceremony in Campeche on Saturday morning […] there will be various activities and visits, a bilateral meeting and a conversation between the presidents of Mexico and Cuba; this is on Saturday in Campeche, and the visit ends on Sunday morning.''
