The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, welcomed U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem at the National Palace as part of the ongoing dialogue between Mexico and the United States.
The two delegations discussed the progress made in bilateral cooperation on migration and security, based on the principles of shared responsibility, mutual trust, respect for sovereignty, coordination without subordination, and respect for human rights.
President Sheinbaum highlighted the contributions of the millions of Mexicans living in the United States.
Homeland Security Secretary Noem reaffirmed that the United States respects Mexico's sovereignty.
Following the meeting, Mexican Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente and Secretary Noem reaffirmed the memorandum of understanding that establishes links between their countries’ risk management and targeting facilities. This memorandum was signed on July 19, 2022, between the National Customs Agency of Mexico and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
President Sheinbaum was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente; Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez; Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch; Undersecretary for Human Rights, Population and Migration of the Interior Ministry Félix Arturo Medina Padilla; Undersecretary of Public Security Héctor Elizalde Mora; Chief Officer for North America at the Foreign Ministry, Roberto Velasco Álvarez; National Migration Institute (INM) Commissioner Francisco Garduño Yáñez; and INM Director General Sergio Salomón Céspedes.
The U.S. delegation included Department of Homeland Security Advisor Corey Lewandowski; Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy Mark C. Johnson; Chief of Staff of the Department of Homeland Security Steven Muñoz; Deputy Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Madison Sheahan; and Department of Homeland Security Attaché at the Embassy Bobby García.
