After a busy first day in Washington, D.C., Foreign Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu began the second day of her visit with a breakfast with the OAS Permanent Council and Secretariat.
The Foreign Secretary was accompanied by Ambassador Emilio Rabasa Gamboa, Permanent Representative of Mexico to the OAS.
The Foreign Secretary then held a bilateral meeting with OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro, where the two officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Mexico Fund. The fund will be for joint cooperation programs between the Foreign Ministry and the OAS.
Also scheduled for today is a meeting between the Foreign Secretary and the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno, followed by a lunch with the IDB officials responsible for Central America and the Pacific Alliance. The Foreign Secretary will end with a bilateral meeting with Jeh Johnson, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
