Senior officials from Mexico and Guatemala met today in Mexico City to follow up on one of the agreements reached by Presidents Enrique Peña Nieto and Jimmy Morales during the Mexican president's State visit to Guatemala on June 5-6.

They reviewed the progress made on the binational energy commitments and identified specific related actions to put in place.

The meeting's agenda included topics related to electricity and hydrocarbons. The officials agreed on the need to make progress with pending issues in order to see results in the near future.  Greater energy cooperation between Mexico and Guatemala will make more energy available at better prices and will make companies more competitive, not only in Guatemala, but in Central America as a whole.

The meeting was attended for Mexico by the Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray; Finance, José Antonio Meade; and Energy, Pedro Joaquín Coldwell; PEMEX Director General José Antonio González Anaya; and the Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission, Jaime Francisco Hernández Martínez.

Guatemala was represented by its Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Raúl Morales Moscoso; Finance, Julio Héctor Estrada Domínguez; and Energy and Mines, Luis Alfonso Chang Navarro.
