The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development established the National Animal Health Award more than 30 years ago to acknowledge the work of men and women veterinarians, who dedicate their professional lives to contribute to the prevention, control and eradication of diseases and pests in Mexico.
In its 33rd edition, the Ministry of Agriculture posthumously acknowledged the career of the veterinarian Roberto Navarro López, who died in December 2023.
The awardee stood out for more than 30 years in the management of emerging diseases and the direction of rapid response teams to the presence of exotic diseases in Mexico, Central American countries, the Caribbean, and South America.
It is important to note that, during the last century, Mexican animal health specialists have been decisive in controlling and eradicating diseases of quarantine importance, such as foot-and-mouth disease, classical swine fever, AHS, among others.
