• Based on the implementation of technologies, it seeks to contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide in the country.
  • It aims to realize 40 cooperation agreements between Mexican and European Union companies.

As a result of the joint effort of the European Union (EU) and ProMéxico, the "Low Carbon Business Action in Mexico" project was presented today, which aims to support the establishment of cooperation arrangements between European and Mexican companies for the implementation of technologies that reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) in Mexico.

The project, funded by the European Union, seeks to contribute to the reduction of CO2 in the country, providing business opportunities for companies and institutions and of the EU in the areas of energy efficiency, waste management and wastewater treatment. It aims to realize 40 cooperation agreements, since its establishment until August 2017.

In this presentation took part the Director General of ProMéxico, Francisco N. González Díaz, who reported that the entity in his charge is a partner of the EU in the implementation of this purpose.

He also stressed that "if current trends, emissions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will cause irreversible damage to the environmental balance of the planet." "In that sense," he explained, "Mexico has led activities that promote sustainability and accelerate the global transition to renewable energies. One of them is the goal of migrating from 27% to 35%, generating clean energy sources by 2024 in our country. "

In turn, the Ambassador of the European Union in Mexico, Andrew Standley, said that "with this innovative project, Mexico and the European Union have the opportunity to show, once again, the most direct and effective way for reducing the greenhouse gases, through technologies that are both clean and economically advantageous."

The Project Leader of "Low Carbon Business Action in Mexico", David Calvo Romano, summed up the phases in which the program will be developed, which include: mapping of the needs and technology gaps in Mexico in relation to the low carbon economy; mapping of supply in green technologies of the EU industry; the holding of a meeting of European and Mexican companies and institutions, both online and face; and the establishment of cooperation agreements between Mexican and European institutions. He said that, at least five events, which will feature a total of 200 Europeans entrepreneurs, will take place throughout the project.

Also, Jaap Veerman, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Mexico, brought his vision of Mexico as a business destination for the Dutch clean technologies.

In turn, Guillermo Chaím Serrano, Director General of Agrocluster of Jalisco, presented a real case of transfer of European clean technologies in Mexico.

In order to boost the European-Mexican business community in low-carbon technologies, during the event, the www.lowcarbon.mx platform was released, where you can find all information and free registration of companies and organizations to participate in this project.

Among those attending the event, highlighted the presence of representatives of chambers, associations and organizations in the energy and environment sector, academics, government officials of the Republic and the diplomatic corps of Member States of the European Union in Mexico.
