From 21 to July 24, it was held in Ankara, Turkey, the fifth round of negotiations for the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Mexico and Turkey. The Mexican delegation was headed by the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade of the Secretariat of Economy, of Mexico, Francisco de Rosenzweig Mendialdua, while Turkey was represented by Murat Yapici, Director General for Affairs of the European Union (EU) of the Ministry of Economy.

During this Fifth Round, were reunited some technical groups related to Market Access, Rules of Origin, Customs and Trade Facilitation, Technical Barriers to Trade, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Trade Remedies, Trade in Services, Investment and Legal and Institutional Affairs. Progress was made in the negotiations of them all, highlighting the closure of the chapter on Trade Facilitation.

The parties estimate conclude the negotiation of this agreement by the end of 2015, in compliance to the mandate assumed in February this year by the Secretary of Economy, of Mexico, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, and the Minister of Economy of Turkey, Nihat Zeybekci.

Turkey is the second trading partner of Mexico in Central and Eastern Europe, and, due to its geostrategic location, it is a gateway to the markets of Eurasia. From 1999 to 2014, Mexico's trade with that country was multiplied by 15, adding $ 967 million in the last year.
