Following up on the meeting with the National Chamber of the Industry of Iron and Steel (CANACERO, by its initials in Spanish) on last July 8, in which the Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, unveiled a package of measures to facilitate the implementation of the Foreign Trade Act to combat unfair trade practices that have been affecting the steel industry, today, the parties met again to exchange views on progress in the subject.

The results of the working groups convened by the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (CONCAMIN, by its initials in Spanish) with steel user sectors (steel, automotive, auto parts, metalworking, household goods, electrical, and construction) were analyzed; there, they assessed the impact it may have the imposition of additional measures throughout the chain. The importance and value of this new period in which, all the industries involved met for the first time, was highlighted.

For its part, the Secretary of Economy (SE, by its initials in Spanish) explained the research conducted in which it was analyzed: the implicit prices of the products, the imposition of tariff measures in other nations; as well as the consultations were made with our main trading partners.

Similarly, the SE conducted a review of the tape from the General Administration of Customs, in order to analyze the 159 sensitive tariff lines for CANACERO; it also conducted a research on the evolution of tariffs in the sector, the fluctuation of the value of the coins from different countries as well as in the effective reduction in electricity rates.

With all this new information, the Secretariat of Economy and the CANACERO will continue to work on the assessment of additional measures.
