A person who uses excessively the mobile can generate nomophobia (not mobile phone) phobia to not be able to use the cell phone. In addition, patients may present craving syndrome, which is the intense desire to consume a drug; In the case of nomophobia, the individual has the need to use the telephone at all times.

The psychiatrist said that a study conducted by an Anxiety Disorders Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, revealed that there is an excessive use of electronic devices in the population between 18 and 25 years of age and between 60 and 80 percent presents a dependence on the use of cell phones.

The psychiatrist Gustavo Martos Alvidrez, specialist of Psychiatric Care Services (SAP) of Mexico´s Ministry of Health, explained that anxiety is a response of involuntary anticipation that the body presents to different stimuli, whether internal or external to the environment.

He commented that internal thoughts are ideas or images that we project according to our experience, while external ones are situations that we face every day and that we can interpret as threatening or dangerous. In general, these situations or feelings are accompanied by tension in our body.

He said that children and adolescents are an extremely vulnerable population to generate dependence on new technologies, so it is essential that parents supervise adequately and prevent future addiction to them.

Martos Alvidrez made a call to prevent children under two years of age from being in contact with mobile devices. In the sector that goes from 2 to 12 years of age, a restricted time of 15 to 45 minutes must be provided and after 12 years of age it can be extended from one hour to 90 minutes, but always with the supervision of parents.

The psychiatrist commented that the treatment given to a patient with these characteristics is pharmacological, through anxiolytics or antidepressants if necessary, or through conductive-behavioral or psychoanalytic therapies.

He ended with a call to be aware of the times to occupy the electronic media, to know that this is a habit that can turn into something negative and affect the health of people.
