The group of cardiovascular diseases, among which are those of the heart, constitute one third of deaths worldwide. In Mexico, heart disease is the second cause of death, only below diabetes mellitus.

There are factors that increase the risk of developing heart disease and others that protect.

For example: obesity, high consumption of processed foods and smoking are some of the factors that increase the risk of developing heart disease.

On the other side, breastfeeding; having a balanced diet, with more vegetables, fruits, seeds and whole grains, low in fat, salt, sugars and regular physical activity are some factors that reduce the risk of developing heart disease.

Adopting healthy lifestyle habits is essential to promote heart health. Teaching children the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity throughout life will help us prevent heart disease in adulthood.
