Social and economic inequalities converge in public health emergencies. When a hurricane, flood, earthquake or public health emergency occurs, the poorest are usually the most affected, said Dr. Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion.

In a press conference given to inform the balance of attention to the wounded by the explosion of Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, Dr. López-Gatell noted that there are 117 deceased and 30 people remain hospitalized in different units of the Health Sector.

By presidential instruction, the institutions of the health sector will cover the costs of medical recovery of the 27 patients who remain hospitalized as a consequence of the tragedy registered in Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, regardless of whether or not they have a right to medical care.

The Undersecretary of Prevention and Promotion of Health, acknowledged that the Government of Mexico works to bring development and welfare to the communities, reinforcing the actions undertaken with a unique, universal and free health system that privileges the care of the most needed population.
