The National Canine and Feline Anti-Rabies Vaccination Week 2019 takes place from March 24 to 30 throughout the country. It aims to keep interrupted the circulation of this virus in dogs and cats, and thereby limit transmission to humans.

With the motto “Do not let your guard down, vaccinate your dog and cat against rabies. For health for all, let's eliminate rabies together” this strategy aims to apply more than 15 million free vaccines throughout the country, a figure that corresponds to 80 percent of the total doses considered for the entire year.

The remaining 20 percent will be applied during the Week of Reinforcement of Rabies Vaccination, which will take place from September 22 to 28 of this year or for states that have permanent positions for the population to take their dogs to vaccinate or cats.

The vaccination scheme for dogs and cats promoted by the Ministry of Health, through its campaigns, consists of applying this type of dose from the first month of age, revaccinate them at three months and then every year.

In this National Week of Canine and Feline Anti-Rabies Vaccination 2019, 70,000 volunteers per day are expected to participate, including personnel from the state health services, elements from the Secretaries of the Navy and National Defense, and students from veterinary schools.

It should be noted that in Mexico since 2017 there are no cases of canine rabies and since 2006, human rabies transmitted by dogs.

The rabies is one of the diseases transmitted by animals to man, through saliva, which occurs from a bite or lick on the skin with some type of wound.
