The National Center of Investigation and Assistance of Burned (CENIAQ), belonging to the National Institute of Rehabilitation "Luis Guillermo Ibarra Ibarra", began operations in 2011.

In this center -unique in its kind in Latin America-, the development of epidemiological, basic, clinical and technological research specialized in burns is promoted.

It also provides surgical care and rehabilitation to those who have suffered a severe injury of this type, as a result of an accident or an emergency situation, through state-of-the-art technology and highly specialized personnel, who provide quality, efficiency, safety and warmth in the attention.

The CENIAQ also promotes standards to regulate burn care, the creation of clinical guidelines and the certification of services.

It provides attention to men and women of all ages who present burns of different types, such as burns in the face, hands, feet, genitals, perineum or major joints; burns of third grade, electrical, chemical, by inhalation, those requiring special intervention: social, emotional and rehabilitation, to mention a few.

In 2018, during the emergency due to the eruption of “el Volcán del Fuego” in Guatemala, CENIAQ specialists moved to that country to assess the wounded and determine to move six people to their facilities to give them the necessary treatment.

Currently four people injured by the explosion of a gasoline pipeline in Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, are being treated in the CENIAQ.
