More than normal or abnormal, if you have had suicidal thoughts you should seek professional support.

Suicide is not an isolated event, but the last link in a chain of events. The suicidal attempt is the product of the interaction between a mental disorder and a stressful event.

To reduce suicidal behaviors, the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of its causes must be improved.

According to specialists, the main causes of suicide are mental illnesses, mainly depression and the consumption of substances such as alcohol and drugs. Only depression increases the risk of committing suicide by 20 times.

When someone talks about suicide or communicates ideas or suicidal attempts, it should not be considered as a way of manipulating or attracting attention, but as a warning signal, an expression of intense anguish or depression, and therefore of risk of suicide.

Hence the importance of detecting mental disorders, diagnosing them and giving them adequate attention by a health professional.

On the other hand, it is essential to work to eliminate the stigma associated with the attention of mental illnesses.

Receiving care from a mental health professional is not synonymous with insanity, but a way to seek emotional well-being.

In Mexico, during 2014, there were 2 thousand 424 suicides in adolescents and young adults (15 to 29 years).
