Regardless of the characteristics that make up the current idea (or ideas) of the family, for centuries it has been agreed that the basic unit of society is, precisely, the family.

It is there where individuals interact for the first time, where they acquire their first habits, where they will reproduce the models of personal and community identity with which they will grow and it is also the first space for learning their social values. Hence, families are a fundamental place to be integrated into social and health policies.

For example, the evidence shows that eating in the family is related to healthier eating habits and eating more nutritious foods; the influence of the family motivates physical activity; In addition, coexistence between mothers and children promotes the development of infants and reduces the possibility of criminal behavior.

In agreement, the theme of the International Day of Families for this year highlights its role as an important element for the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions.
