The book goes beyond being an object, it is a device. Since its invention in antiquity, the book has resisted the passage of years and technological changes.
For Dr. Jose Narro the book is one of the geniuses of our species and one of the elements that have influenced the change of societies; while libraries, he says, "are the places where we keep one of the most extraordinary elements that the human being has invented: the book".
Libraries, in addition, collect systematically collections of books, and order them for consultation. Occasionally, they compile publications on specific topics, such as the libraries of health sciences.
In Mexico we have 7,427 libraries that are part of the National Network of Public Libraries distributed throughout the national territory.
The Ministry of Health, through the National Institutes of Health and High Specialty Hospitals, has 20 libraries of Health Sciences, with almost half a million titles, electronic and printed. These libraries have 790 thousand users per year and 1.3 million queries are made annually.
Last March 1, Dr. José Narro inaugurated the 2nd National and 4th International Congress of Health Sciences Libraries, in the facilities of the Children's Hospital of Mexico Federico Gómez.
