Cigar consumption is a problem that affects a large number of people in the world, but in Mexico this practice is carried out from an early age.

Recent surveys report that 86,000 children students of fifth or sixth grade of primary, that is, between 10 and 11 years of age, smoke daily. Incredible, right?

Of the total number of junior high school and high school students, 30.4 percent have used tobacco in their lifetime and more than 700 thousand of them smoke every day. In Mexico 14.3 million smokers are older than 15 years.

Every day we hear or see publicity and negative comments about the use of this substance, which causes cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, known as COPD, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and premature aging, among other consequences, however, the information seems to be of little use, as the number of smokers is increasing.

Therefore, it is necessary to involve the entire population, including health professionals, parents, school authorities and government institutions, but especially the people closest to the children, who can guide, advise and give the example of not smoking.

It is important for us as a society to join efforts to reduce the number of smokers and the age of onset, as this practice is the "gateway" to other legal or illegal psychoactive substances that represent serious problems for the health.
