At the start of the "Forum towards a policy of regulation of cannabis", the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, contributed to some guidelines for the regulation of cannabis and derivatives, where emphasis is placed on the protection of the health of people, especially children and adolescents, to promote information based on evidence for labeling and the consumption conditions for medical use.

In this forum, organized by the Senate of the Republic, headed by the president of the Political Coordination Board, Ricardo Monreal, Dr. Alcocer Varela, considered that the greatest challenge facing the development of any regulatory model is to balance this public health approach with commercial interests.

In his presentation he showed the pros for therapeutic purposes and the negative effects on the health of cannabis, which is the most consumed drug in the world. As for the numerous damages to health, he warned that the combined use of cannabis with other types of substances increases the risk of medical emergencies.
