• Every day, we learn something from Mexico; you are a great example for us: Mayor of Bogota.

After meeting with the Mayor of Bogota, Enrique Peñalosa Londoño, who presented him with the keys to the city and declared him an Illustrious Guest, President Enrique Peña Nieto said that, for Mexicans, “Colombia is a country very close to our hearts. It is so because of its history, traditions and geographical proximity.”

The Mexican president declared that, within the framework of this state visit, he has come to reaffirm  the “Ties of friendship and brotherhood between Colombia and Mexico, through different instruments, agreements and forms of cooperation”.

He thanked Mayor Peñalosa for his friendship and hospitality, and hoped that his efforts, “Will translate into concrete benefits for the people of this great city of Bogota, the capital of Colombia”. He hoped that, “The hospitality we have been given today and the agreements signed are a result of the consolidation of the brotherhood between the two nations”.

"Governments work for a single goal and with a single interest: for our societies to have quality of life and the opportunity for personal and collective fulfillment. In view of these shared goals, I hope that our efforts and endeavors really achieve that purpose,” he said.

Since Mexico is a country that is “about 50 years ahead of us,” as regards development, Mayor of Bogota Enrique Peñalosa Londoño said that Colombians have learned a lot from our country about what to do and not to do. Every day, we learn something from Mexico; you are a great example for us:

He said, as he has often done, “Colombians are Mexicanophiles by definition”. We love Mexicans, he continued, “Mexican culture, Mexican food, music, not only rancheras, but also contemporary music, cinema and television”.

He thanked President Enrique Peña Nieto for visiting the City Hall as part of his state visit, adding that, “It is a very great honor, and gives us great pleasure to have you with us”.
