Prior to his participation in the XXV Meeting of Economic Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), President Enrique Peña Nieto met with his Vietnamese counterpart, President Trần Đại Quang, to whom expressed his condolences for the damage caused by the passage of typhoon Damrey through his country.

The Mexican president underlined his government's determination to continue working closely with Vietnam to strengthen the ties of friendship and enrich every aspect of the bilateral agenda. In this regard, he highlighted the successful completion of the first meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic, Commercial and Investment Cooperation between both countries on November 7 in Hanoi. 

President Peña Nieto congratulated the Vietnamese President on his work throughout the year in presiding over the work of APEC, which, in this edition, will focus its discussions on the deepening of regional economic integration; the promotion of sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth; strengthening the competitiveness and innovation of SMEs in the digital era; and expanding food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change.

APEC is the most important political-economic coordination mechanism in the region. It comprises 21 economies representing 39% of the world population, 60% of global GDP and half of world trade.
