President Enrique Peña Nieto instructed the Minister of Health to keep the population duly informed through the media on the actions the government will take to prevent and deal with cases of the Zika virus in the country and the effects of this disease.

The measures recommended by the WHO Emergency Committee have been adopted, as a result of which the preventive actions for 2016 will be intensified.


·        Preventive work has been carried out through the Ministry of Health.

·        Brigades have been formed to provide care in areas where there is a potential risk.

·        Fumigation and orientation actions have been undertaken to prevent the spread of the virus.

Between November 2015 and January 29, 2016, the Health Ministry has only confirmed 34 cases of infections in Mexico.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Zika virus a global health emergency because of its potential risk to unborn babies.
